Role summary

Finite State is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack). In this role you will develop, maintain, and support operationally critical SaaS software. You will collaborate with team leads from every department on implementing new features, debugging existing features, and designing new functionality. This role is a senior level position and reports to the Director of Research and Development.


You must be based in and authorized to work in the US.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

  • Build new features primarily in JavaScript and React
  • Perform data modeling and processing at scale, primarily in Python
  • Improve the performance and scalability of our platform
  • Be responsible for pragmatic technical decision-making to ensure we're delivering high quality software as quickly as possible
  • Make incremental improvements and simplifications to our platform's architecture to improve development velocity, scalability, and deployment flexibility
  • Work collaboratively with Product Management and UX to ensure a delightful customer experience
  • Uphold our core values of transparency, results, accountability, customer dedication, and courage
  • Champion our mission to protect our connected world

What we're looking for:

  • Strong experience with JavaScript and related libraries (preferably React)
  • Experience with web application frameworks (preferably Django)
  • Experience writing performant SQL queries
  • Experience working on a cloud-provider-hosted platform (preferably AWS)
  • Experience working on small, fast-paced, teams
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with engineers and stakeholders
  • Ability to mentor and advise less experienced engineers

It's a plus if you also have:

  • React
  • Front-End Testing
  • Experience turning design mock-ups into accessible and responsive code
  • GraphQL
  • Django
  • Building and supporting platforms for large enterprise customers
  • ArangoDB and/or Postgres
  • Data science or machine learning
  • Experience with any and all kinds of Security (software, hardware, firmware, IT, physical, etc.)

Success path

  • In 30 days you will: Learn the team's domain and begin taking on tasks
  • In 60 days you will: Continuing increasing complexity of tasks and pair with other engineers when needed
  • In 90 days you will: Feel comfortable in at least one area and develop a general understanding of the overall architecture
